What started off as a gentle hum has slowly grown into a full blown buzz……………
In August 2015 a friend or two were nagging me to start doing something creative with them. They didn’t mind what, but felt they needed a creative outlet in their week. A time to unwind and forget about the challenges that we face in our daily lives.
So we agreed upon a day that suited most, and before I knew it 10 ladies started arriving every Tuesday afternoon. Eager and ready to experiment with whatever was laid out before them. Our group – “the Creative Creatures” – made gift boxes and tags, salad dressings, brooches , tiled cheese boards, hand sewn bookmarks, Christmas decorations and more. Every lady brought her talents and energy to the table. Our hands and mind were fully engaged in our tasks and chatter about our week. Time flew by and we all left the afternoon feeling inspired and refreshed, to face the week ahead. Some members counting the sleeps till our next Tuesday!
This got me thinking, there must be lots of people in similar situations. People looking for a place to switch off, make, tinker, play, feel inspired and be engaged.
As well as hosting the regular Creative Creatures afternoons, I teach full time at a high school. I teach a wide range of subjects and am passionate about encouraging curiosity and creativity amongst the students and teachers and all the people I come into contact with.
So my mind now did start to actually buzz!!
What if I could combine all my interests and passions into one place? And so, the idea for THE HIVE started to take shape.
The Hive has evolved and now offers various making, creating and community building experiences.
